The electronics content in the car body has grown strongly over the past few years. A nice illustration of this trend is the strong growth of electronic functions integrated in exterior mirrors. Many modern standard equipment mirrors are fitted with electric position adjustment, heated de-icing/defogging function, automatic dimming, a remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver, indicator lights and entry illumination. More upscale cars may include automatic folding systems, automatic aiming when backing up or parking and blind spot vehicle detection electronics.
Melexis’ in-house competencies in all these fields enable a monolithic integration of certain functions in order to optimize module cost and performance. Melexis has know-how in position sensing (Hall effect ICs) and motor controllers to adjust the mirror position, RF receivers, LED drivers to control the indicator lights and LIN and GMLAN bus transceivers and MCUs to minimize wiring and to interface with the low speed networks. |
