70 kHz Programmable Hall-effect current sensor IC with automotive protections - MLX91207

Product description

Not recommended for new designs. Similar functionality provided by the MLX91209 , MLX91217 or MLX91219.

The MLX91207 is a fully customer programmable monolithic current sensor IC in standard SO-8 package. The Hall sensor provides a high speed analog output signal proportional to the external applied flux density and additional thermometer output. The MLX91207 current sensor enables the user to construct a robust current sensor solution with fast response times < 10usec.

Fully programmable plug and play sensor

The MLX91207 current sensor IC is automotive qualified and particularly appropriate for DC and/or AC current measurements up to 70 kHz with ohmic isolation and low assembly cost requirements. The MLX91207 features over voltage and reverse voltage protection including broken track diagnostics and can therefore be used as a “stand-alone” current sensor being connected directly to a cable. The transfer characteristic of the MLX91207 is fully customer programmable (offset, gain, clamping levels, diagnostic functions, …).

Current sensor applications

In the typical application the sensor is used in combination with a ring shaped soft ferromagnetic core. The Hall-IC is placed in a small air gap and the current conductor is passed through the inner part of the ferromagnetic ring. The ferromagnetic ring concentrates and amplifies the magnetic flux on the Hall sensor IC which generates an output voltage proportional to the current.

The MLX91207 is perfectly suitable in many fields of current sensing in automotive like traditional battery monitoring, for converters in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), electric vehicle (EV), etc. Furthermore it can be used in different applications in industrial and consumer markets like solar panels.
