Bus Transceiver The continuous growth of electronic content in cars allows improvements in comfort, safety and fuel economy. Integrating these functions requires the application of multiple bus systems to guarantee that the applicable modules can communicate at the required speed and safety levels. The vehicle manufacturers have developed different bus network standards to minimize cost while maximizing the performance. Bus transceivers are the basic components for the in vehicle network. These components convert the BUS signals connected to the car network into digital signals which will be further processed from the connected MCU to execute the application needs. Melexis offers for those applications Bus transceivers for the LIN Bus system (LIN stands for Local Interconnect Network) as well as for the single wire CAN bus used by GM. Bus transceiver ICs can be used for all kinds of LIN or single wire CAN applications. The LIN bus is accepted on all new development platforms and focuses primarily on the comfort area. Thanks to LIN it is possible to affordably interconnect the steadily increasing number of comfort functions. Additionally LIN can be implemented in applications that were previously impossible to network due to the prohibitive incremental cost of the networking features. System Basic ICs The LIN (local interconnect network) bus is accepted on all new development platforms and focuses primarily on the comfort area. A System Basic ICs (SBCs) combine in its simplest version just the in vehicle network transceiver with a voltage regulator. The voltage regulator is used to supply the connected MCU. There are also SBCs available which integrate additional necessary functions like e.g. watchdog and reset generation. With this 1st integration step SBCs enable LIN to be a very cost efficient bus system. Melexis offers System Basis ICs for the LIN bus system with different functionalities. These ICs can be used for all kind of LIN applications.
