MLX81200 General Description

The MLX81200 is a highly integrated 3 phase motor controller for 12V automotive applications. It includes a 16-Bit-Flash-Micro-controller with a high voltage analog periphery for BLDC motor driving in a very small package. Therefore the MLX81200 enables the industry’s smallest control electronics – opening a new dimension in system integration. Its TruSense technology enables sensorless motor driving for a wide range of applications requesting an “on demand” control.

TruSense

The Melexis TruSense technology combines reluctance measurements with BEMF (Back Electro-Motive Force) sensing, yielding highly accurate rotor position information, in a very wide dynamic range and under heavily changing loads.
Because of that, also very demanding applications operating under unknown torque as transmission oil pumps, can be controlled in a sensorless way.
The PWM driving scheme might be adapted to any motor current shape, achieving the best possible efficiency, low torque ripple and minimal conducted and radiated emissions.
TruSense also allows a very fast motor start-up as well as operation at very low speeds. TruSense supports block mode commutation, trapezoidal and sinusoidal motor currents, achieving a low noise performance.

Answer
The MLX81100 is the standard product for Dc motor control. The MLX81200 is the standard product for BLDC motor control.

General quesions for MLX81200

Question
Can the MLX81200 be used in a dc24v/100A sensorless bldc motor application with include FG outout/thermal detected shutdown function?

Answer
The MLX81200 is originally designed for only 12V applications, not 24V. A workaround is in the makes. Official release is planned for Sept/Oct 09. The MLx81200 includes an embedded Flash controller. FG output and thermal shutdown can all be implemented in software.
