Purpose of the position

Manage the entire Product Line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities:

  • Identify growth opportunities and secure business and financial support
  • Successfully introduce new products into the market that generate profitable growth within a specified product family
  • Manage products throughout their lifecycle to maximize value


General accountabilities

Business Development: ensure the best positioning and strategy of the product line in the market, including especially:

  • Construct, update and monitor critical market intelligence systems (sales forecasts, production forecasts, macro-economic trends, industry and technology trends)
  • Market - and competitor analysis (position in the market, product development…)
  • Collect and analyze the customer feedback
  • Share critical insight throughout the organization
  • Define innovative solutions/products across market segments and within specific customer groups while looking for synergies across Product Lines
  • Create, define and ensure follow- up/implementation of the product strategy

Business Creation: drive the product development from the validation process till the release of the product into the market:

  • Ensure the building of application know-how
  • Build preliminary business case, prepare and present required documentation
  • Translate the specific customer needs into a set of clear technical product requirements (specifications) that sustain the value of the preliminary business case
  • Act as a customer representative within the organization for new product developments
  • Find lead customer and forge strong relationships with key decision makers at potential customers throughout the process

Product Launch: provide relevant material to both internal stakeholders and customers in order to guarantee a successful product roll-out

  • Drive and work closely with the development team and sign-off relevant development milestones to make sure the product is fit for the market and in line with the appropriate time to market
  • Organize and ensure execution all necessary material to support a successful product roll-out
  • Re-assess the desirability and the effectiveness of product positioning

Product Line Sustaining: maximize the success of the product line

  • Support Sales field work for mutual success (Customer, Melexis, Sales, BU)
  • Monitor and ensure follow up of new business opportunities
  • Support Sales in quoting and define pricing within the agreed framework in order to maximize gross profit margin
  • Analyze performances, document risks and problems and identify critical parameters
  • Develop relationship with relevant stakeholders (direct accounts, distributors and reps)
  • Ensure the market intelligence is reflected in the business forecasting processes

Product Discontinuance

  • Decide when a product should be discontinued
  • Make sure a discontinuance plan is made and the appropriate notification towards the stakeholders gets executed


Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical engineering
  • 7-10 years of related experience in similar or connected functions. Automotive experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge on optical or microwave sensor systems
  • Camera architecture (sensor + optics + processing)
  • Image processing (on embedded)
  • Experience in DSP or MCU or ISP product development (requirements, black box validation)
  • Analysis / Synthesis / Presentation skills to customers/OEMs/management /conferences
  • People Management experience (~3-5 years)
  • Customer driven with the ability to work in a highly dynamic cross-functional, cross-site environment with engineering, marketing and sales organization both internally and externally
