Your future job

As an intern at Melexis, you will develop a magnetic force sensor.
More specifically, you will:

  • Investigate creative concepts for novel magnetic force sensors for robotic “gripping” applications—giving robots the sense of touch. 

  • Model the most promising concept to quantify the performance (sensitivity, spatial resolution ...).

  • Build & characterize a prototype in the lab out of existing sensor chips.

  • Integrate the sensor with a robotic hand and control algorithm.

  • Demonstrate the sensor benefits in a challenging robotic application: gripping fragile objects (fruits, ...).

Expected results

  • A concept outperforming the state of the art.
  • A working prototype with supporting evidence such as simulation, lab results, and application demos.
  • A final feasibility report and a presentation to be delivered to internal customers.

Requirements

  • Analytical skills and ability to translate insight into novel solutions.

  • Experience in conducting experimental tasks and device characterization (controlling instruments ...).

  • Experience with PCB design and layouting software (Altium).

  • Data analysis skills (e.g. matlab, python).

  • Preferred:  affiliation with EPFL.
