Melexis is one of the global market leaders in BLDC motordrivers for cooling/ventilation of applications up to 30W, ranging from servers, over VGA-Gaming cards in desktops and gaming consoles, to fans in refrigerators, printers, etc.  Thanks to COVID the global interest in PM2.5 sensor fans, and whisper-silent air purifiers is rapidly growing.  While in high-end cars, more than 20 fans or blowers may be applied per car, in dashboards, headlights, seats, batteries, airconditioner management etc.  Thermal management is becoming even more important for electric vehicles to optimize the driving range. Therefore there is a growing need for solutions that can address application-specific needs, in terms of: acoustic performance, vibration, and/or EMC emissions, whilst offering robust operation over a very wide temperature range, with very long life times.

Our mission is to offer turnkey solutions that offer best price/performance ratio for that wide range of application. As an intern in the Product Line Smart Motor Driver, you will support early system studies related to future product developments of BLDC motor drivers:

Your project goals:

·       Building test-setups in the lab, for evaluating different driving algorithms on different BLDC-fans and -pumps

·       Analysing the test results, based on scope plots with motor- and supply-current and -voltages, acoustic measurements, vibration measurements, efficiency comparison, thermal assessments, …

·       Reporting in a clear way the conclusions

·       Finetuning Matlab similunk models to fit the measurement results, and support the conclusions.

YOUR PROFILE

·       Enrolled Student in Electronic Engineering

·       Interest in Electronics and Physics, more in particular in the field of BLDC motor control and power electronics

·       Notions of embedded software (C), Matlab, python,

·       Notions of control theory, filtering

·       Fluent English
