Master thesis/Internship - Tactile Sensors For Robotics: Integration and Algorithm - Bevaix, Switzerland





Project Description

As an intern at Melexis, you will investigate the performances of a novel magnetic force sensor for manipulation and grasping and develop its integration in a robotic environment. 

More specifically, you will:

  • Review the literature on tactile sensors and robotic manipulation.

  • Survey the sensor technologies in use (magnetic, capacitive, optical…).

  • Create a ROS (Robot Operating Software) environment for the sensor and a user-friendly software library.

  • Improve the algorithm to measure the force based on machine learning techniques.

  • Perform slip detection experiments.

Expected results

  • Development of a software environment (ROS + simple library) to diffuse the technology to potential customers

  • A report on the different approaches to compute the force based on the raw signal

  • Possible participation in a robotic conference or tradeshow

  • A live demonstration of the sensor integrated in a robotic arm


  •  Familiarity with integrated sensors
  •  Data analysis skills (ideally in Python)
  •  Knowledge in ROS and experience in software development
  •  Previous experience in robotic manipulation
