Your future job

Melexis is actively exploring new biosensor technologies for digital health applications  in wearables, remote patient monitoring and in-vitro diagnostics (www.melexis.com/digital-health). As a Sensor Design Engineer at Melexis, you will drive the design of novel sensor concepts according to the technology roadmap of the innovation team. 

 

More specifically, you will:

  • Lead the development of Melexis’ current integrated biosensing platform towards industrialization
  • Develop surface functionalization protocols and biosensing assays for the detection of health biomarkers
  • Conduct proof-of-concept studies demonstrating the biomarker detection  performances in biological buffers as well as validation studies in clinical samples
  • Mature sensor prototypes, possibly in collaboration with industrial and academic partners.
  • Promote the technologies and seek feedback from prospective customers  in the targeted application domains (wearable devices, point-of-care diagnostics, …).
  • Research other state-of-the-art transducer technologies  to uncover opportunities in biosensing.
  • Propose novel biosensors based on biofunctionalized field-effect-transistor, biomagnetics, bio-optics, or other technologies.
  • Manage innovation projects and coach junior team members.

Your profile

  • Curious, open, creative and at ease with multidisciplinary system thinking.
  • Master or PhD degree in biomedical engineering, microtechnology, chemistry or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one sensor-rich digital health application.
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical and optical biosensing concepts in general (electrochemical, BioFET, impedimetric, etc)
  • 5 years of professional R&D experience.
  • Hand-on experience with  surface functionalization methods, such as antibodies and DNA grafting, enzyme immobilization, passivation and blocking
  • Familiarity with integrated circuits and microfluidics.
  • Data analysis skills in Python or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of project management.
  • Ideally, knowledge of the product development life cycle for medical devices and of the Medical Device Regulation (MDR)
  • Effective communication skills in English, incl. publication of scientific articles.
