SRE Intern (Feasibility Study) - Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium
Your future job
We are at a pivotal moment in our technical evolution. Currently, our monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities are spread across several different tools. While effective, this fragmented approach limits our ability to get a complete, unified view of our systems' health. We don't have a dedicated Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or Observability team yet, and you could be the one to lay the groundwork for it.
We are looking for a motivated and curious SRE Intern to undertake a critical feasibility study. This is not a typical internship; you will be leading a high-impact research project that will directly influence our technology roadmap. Your mission is to explore the landscape of modern observability, analyze our current state, and provide clear, actionable recommendations for building a consolidated, state-of-the-art observability platform.
More specifically, you will:
- Discovery & Audit: Collaborate with our development and operations teams to map out our existing monitoring, logging, and alerting tools. You will be the detective who understands our current workflows, data sources, and, most importantly, our pain points.
- Market Research: Dive deep into the world of modern observability. You will research the three pillars (metrics, logs, and traces) and evaluate leading open-source solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, etc) and commercial platforms (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, New Relic, Honeycomb).
- Feasibility Analysis: Compare and contrast different approaches to tool consolidation. Your analysis will consider technical feasibility, cost implications, scalability, and ease of integration with our primary programming languages).
- Develop Recommendations: Synthesize your findings into a comprehensive report. This final deliverable will outline 2-3 strategic options for the company, detailing
Your profile
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- A natural problem-solver with strong analytical skills and a structured approach to research.
- Deeply curious about how complex software systems work, fail, and are maintained.
- An excellent communicator (in English), capable of explaining complex technical ideas clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently with guidance from senior mentors. You are not afraid to ask questions and seek out information from different teams.
We offer
- High-Impact Experience: Lead a project with real, tangible business impact. Your
work won't be forgotten; it will be a foundational document for our engineering team. - Mentorship: Receive direct guidance and mentorship from senior engineers and
technical leaders. - Deep Technical Learning: Gain practical, in-depth knowledge in the cutting-edge
and highly sought-after field of observability and SRE. - Portfolio Project: Your final report and presentation will serve as an excellent,
real-world project to showcase to future employers. - Competitive internship stipend and a dynamic, supportive work environment.
- An internship of 3 - 6 months
