The MLX90808 is a fully integrated absolute pressure sensor realized with standard CMOS technology in combination with MEMS bulk micromachining.

This monolithic solution is fully automotive qualified. Piezoresistors in a Wheatstone bridge configuration are placed on the edges of a silicon membrane and transform the stress induced by the pressure on the membrane into an electrical signal. An analog chain interacting with a digital core performs the conditioning of the piezoresistors output voltage. By writing calibration settings in the chip memory a uniform transfer function is obtained over the working pressure and temperature range.

Even in harsh environments

The Melexis integrated pressure sensors cover many different pressure ranges from a pressure span of 100mbar to several bars. Their use is straightforward when the media to be measured is not too harsh (examples: barometers, dry air, automotive media like in engine intake manifolds, brake boosters and fuel vapor). For harsher media applications the Melexis chips are used in some special configurations (examples: oil, liquids, automotive or engine exhaust gases).
