MeLiBu®

MeLiBu® (Melexis Light Bus) is a license-free, high-speed, and robust automotive communication protocol that utilizes UART communication over a CAN-FD physical layer (differential bus) with real-time self-synchronization. Originally engineered as a disruptive, low-cost, and scalable alternative to standard UART-over-CAN for highly animated, delay-free smart lighting systems (up to ASIL-B), MeLiBu combines the hardware simplicity and auto-addressing nature of LIN with the superior bandwidth and EMC/ESD robustness of CAN.

Beyond its foundational lighting footprint, next-generation iterations of the MeLiBu ecosystem expand its capabilities to encapsulate and take over traditional LIN-bus topologies and peripheral control, transforming it into a holistic, multi-purpose vehicle networking platform capable of managing complex sensor, motor-driver, and animated actuator sub-systems far exceeding standard lighting applications.
