Melexis unveils versatile integrated current sensor platform up to 100 A
Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium, 17 September 2026 – Melexis has introduced the MLX91224 and MLX91225, expanding its isolated current sensor portfolio for high-voltage automotive and industrial applications. Delivering plug-and-play measurement up to 100 ARMS, ASIL B readiness, and a fast analog response across three package options, these new devices simplify design for EV powertrains, DC-DC converters, chargers, and solar systems.

As electrification across various applications (renewable energies, industrial, automotive, energy storage systems…) continues to scale, current measurement is becoming more demanding. Designers need accurate, isolated measurement for system control and safety. For low-current measurements, a common solution is the shunt-based approach. However, these solutions typically lead to increased Ohmic losses, need for isolated amplifiers, assembly complexity, and effort in end-of-line calibration.
The MLX91224 and MLX91225 address these challenges by combining the current conductor, sensing element, signal conditioning, and isolation in a compact SOIC package. Current flows directly through the low-impedance lead frame of the package, while two sets of Hall plates differentially sense the magnetic flux generated by the current. The architecture minimizes disturbance from external magnetic fields and enables a high-speed linear analog output proportional to the measured current, with package-dependent isolation ratings supporting working voltages up to 1640 VRMS.
Integrated safety and fast current measurement
For automotive applications, Melexis brings an industry-first ASIL B integrated current sensor platform to high-voltage current measurement with the MLX91224 and MLX91225. Developed as ISO 26262 Safety Elements out of Context (SEooC), the devices give engineers a stronger starting point for safety-related current measurement in high-voltage automotive systems. This platform offers fast response for current measurement in motor control, electric drives, DC-DC converters, AC and DC chargers, solar systems, power supplies, and many other applications.
The devices are available in DE, DG, and DH package options to address different current, isolation, and surge-current requirements. The compact DE package provides a continuous operating current capability up to 50 A (root mean square) and overcurrent detection (OCD) in a cost-efficient SOIC6FL format. In SOIC16W format, the DG variant supports a similar continuous operating current range and working voltage, enabled by increased creepage and clearance distance. For higher-current designs, the DH package extends the platform to a continuous operating current capability up to 100 ARMS in a SOIC12W FL package, with first-class surge-current ratings up to ±29 kA.
Versatile solution for automotive and industrial power
All devices support AC and DC current measurement, bipolar or unipolar sensing, and ratiometric or fixed output configurations. The MLX91224 is designed for 5 V systems, while the MLX91225 supports 3.3 V systems, allowing engineers to select the device that best matches the available voltage rail and microcontroller architecture. OCD is provided through a dedicated pin, with thresholds defined internally or externally, via the OCD-TH pin, to support protection and monitoring functions. With an operating ambient temperature range of -40 °C to 150 °C, the platform is designed for use in challenging automotive and industrial applications.
