Product description

The US168 is a one-chip solution for driving single-coil brushless DC (BLDC) fans and motors.

The use of Melexis soft switching concept lowers the acoustic and electrical motor noise and provides smoother operation.

The US168 device includes reverse voltage protection, locked rotor protection and thermal protection. Therefore, the IC robustness perfectly suits for consumer and automotive-on-board applications.

The integrated tachometer (FG) output follows the Hall sensor signal which allows to determine the rotation speed. Its open-drain output facilitates the connectivity with external interface for hardware monitoring.

Delivered in the well-known thin SOT-23 package, it is quite suitable for low noise 5V single-coil cooling fans without need of any external components.

The device is also provided in a chip scale package (CSP) which is the smallest packaged IC configuration available. The CSP saves valuable PCB and housing space allowing smaller integration. The footprint of the new Ultra-Thin QFN (Quad Flat No leads) package is only 3mm2 (1.5 x 2 mm) with 0.43 mm maximum thickness. This is particularly important for vibration motors fitted in mobile phone and consumer application where the demand is unceasingly for miniaturization and ultra-slim designs.
